Yesterday our students had nice flights and top landings at Bulwer. Flying ended early with thunderstorms building up. Suddenly there was a lot of lift, which meant it was time to pull in big ears and go and land. An epic storm came past a bit later with swirling cloud, strong wind, and a lot of lightning. Today there is 100% high cloud cover with very calm conditions and a light East wind. Wednesday and Thursday looks like it will be good at Bulwer, maybe some storms in the afternoon.
It was a perfect day for running around on the slopes learning to pull up a glider. New students Robert and Kaiso from Norway and Finland logged two flights each. The morning started off with light rain. It cleared up quite early and we had a good training day.
Student Roger Luke yesterday logged three nice flights before the wind got a bit strong and Cumulus clouds started to over develop. On Sunday there was also good flying with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Hans did some good tandems and Roger got a great thermalling flight. Today is hot and Northwest to West wind.
New student Bruce Bremner had a great time last Tuesday and Wednesday, with East wind and a low cloudbase it was cold and smooth flying. We had some rain since then about 25mm in total. Yesterday the sky looked epic with a strongish breeze from the South. At the moment the wind is Southwest.
Vukile Mtolo and Pakamani Dlamini, two passionate paragliding pilots who would otherwise not have been able to afford paragliding, have had various benefactors to help them reach their dreams. Wild Sky Paragliding taught them to fly. South African pilots have sponsored their gear. Wayner Heuer and Chrissi Drunk sponsored their license fees. Many thanks to everyone for helping their dream of flying become a reality. Happy paragliding!
Its been interesting paragliding weather lately. Regardt van Wyk had some great flying near clouds on Saturday. Hans took a very happy Wayne from Durban for a great tandem flight. The wind has been strong most afternoons. Lambert and Hentie had some good flying this last week, and learned a lot about weather and wind at the same time.
It is misty this morning but should clear up the forecast looks very good for today with Easterly winds all day.
On Friday student Ingo van Wyk logged five flights. On Saturday the weather was extremely unpredictable with thunderstorms from early disrupted flying. Ingo logged two short flights, one at Centocow and one at Bulwer 1000. Sunday was light and scratchy with only John Coulson getting away, with a good one from Bulwer to the Pickle Pot. Today we have low cloud with an Easterly wind, it should be a reasonable paragliding day.
Hans had a great tandem flight with Hannelie this morning at 10h30. They thermalled up with vultures and got to over 700meters above take off. Yesterday was very light, the wind only switched on after 15h00 for a good valley release.
The weather has not been great for paragliding at Bulwer this last week with lots of strong North Westerly winds blowing and in between cold fronts coming through with mist and rain. Today we had four seasons. The day started fairly clear with a good Easterly wind blowing before 08h00 already, the wind direction changed to strong North West by 10h00. It was quite hot and late afternoon the wind direction suddenly changed as another cold front moved in. At the moment it is misty and cold with the occasional shower.
