Paragliding course information

Wild Sky hopes you have many hours of enjoyment learning to fly with us. We are committed to a high standard of training with safety being the highest priority.

Warning: Paragliding is addictive.

You are in excellent hands. BULWER is one of the best places to learn to paraglide.

Course Rules

  • Please pay a deposit before the commencement of paragliding courses.
  • Once training has started, we do not refund course fees.
  • Training fees are not transferable.
  • The introductory course must be completed within six weeks, unless the student has been in communication, and events beyond his control have necessitated the delay. Non-communication will mean Wild Sky Paragliding is under no obligation to provide further training.
  • The Basic Licence course should be completed within six months.  Regular attendance is compulsory except when prior arrangements are made.  It is possible to complete the course within 2-3 months (ten to fourteen flyable days), provided the pilot is prepared to attend training sessions regularly.
  • If the Student does not complete the course within six months, the student will be required to renew the SAHPA student license, and pay an additional training fee unless there is a valid reason for the extended period. Wild Sky is very reasonable in this regard. The Student must discuss any further delays with Wild Sky.
  • The SAHPA student membership is valid for six months.
  • A student who has reached 35 flights but has not completed all the requirements for the Basic Licence will pay a daily fee.
  • All students are required to fly at Bulwer 1000 from flight number ten. A fee is applicable if a student needs extra tuition.
  • A student or pilot causing extensive damage to the school equipment, could be expected to contribute to the cost of the repairs, taking into account the reason for the damage.
  • Theory lectures are held on certain mornings at 10h00 as per the program announced regularly by WhatsApp. The theory is also covered extensively while at flying sites, because we can use weather conditions as examples.
  • Students must advise Wild Sky when they want to attend training a day in advance.
  • All students and pilots must sign the indemnity form before flying takes place.
  • Students should advise Wild Sky of any previous injuries or physical issues, as we have ways to work around some physical restraints (knee problems, ankle problems, etc), especially with the running on the slopes the first day of training. We can adjust our methods to suit.
  • An Instructor must always be present when a student is flying.
  • We emphasize ground handling. We provide wings for this and instructions on forward and reverse launch.  Confidence in launching your wing makes a difference in your overall flying confidence.

When we are flying

  • Students will receive our commitment when it is flyable. We expect the same. Be ready to fly when you receive the go-ahead.
  • Once students have landed, switch off the radio and pack the wing. It is sensitive to sun exposure and should not be left in the sun unnecessarily.
  • Fortunately, our modern school harnesses have good back protection, but try to land on your feet every time.
  • Please look after the radio, and hand it to your instructor. When a student has completed a flight and top landed, bunch the wing and walk to the front of take off.

Additional Services

Whats app group

  • The school offers a WhatsApp service to inform all students and interested pilots of the predicted weather at Bulwer or other sites the school may visit. Wild Sky usually sends a message daily over weekends, around 7:30 a.m.

Getting your equipment:

  • It is not advisable to buy equipment until one is sure that one would like to continue with the exciting sport of paragliding. Wait until you have completed the Intro Course. You will have more information about what gliders are suitable. Never buy anything without consulting your Instructor. Be wary of adverts in Gumtree and other newspapers (although it is possible to get real bargains, you may also lose money unnecessarily by buying unsuitable gear).
  • We highly recommend you purchase your equipment through your paragliding school while on course. We have the expertise and knowledge to help you buy the correct kit, help you set it up correctly, and instruct you on using the equipment correctly. We offer a wide range of new gear and can also assist in finding second-hand gear if that suits your purse better.

When you’ve completed your license course:

  • It is a good idea to join a flying club. We will recommend clubs closest to where you live.
  • Wild sky offers an additional progression steps program to further basic pilots skills and airmanship. You can fly with us under guidance and instruction, including use of equipment for R1500pp per day.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you
